The use of Technology has been helpful in promoting election transparency and timely access to election information in most countries around the world. Leveraging it to serve this purpose was a no-brainer for Gambia Participates as it looks towards innovative tools, digital or otherwise, to augment the work it does.
The Marble mobile application, named for the marble stone used in elections in The Gambia since independence in 1965, is a digital tool created in 2018 to provide up-to-date, timely and accurate election information to electorates to promote election transparency and accountability. The application is intended to be used to inform and educate people on elections in general.
It was made freely available to the public on the Google Play Store – it is currently only designed for the android platform – during the 2018 Local Government Election for first usage and testing. A thousand plus citizens used the app as a reference point during elections even though it was launched a week before elections.
Since its launch in 2018, the application has garnered praise and gained traction amongst Gambians home and abroad.
